QuickTest Professional (QTP) is an automated functional and regression testing tool designed to validate the user interface and business workflows of web and desktop applications. It supports record-and-playback, keyword-driven testing, and scripting in VBScript, making it accessible to both testers and automation engineers. Core features include data-driven testing through parameterization, an object repository and Object Spy for reliable object handling, checkpoints and output values for validation, recovery scenarios for error handling, and Smart Identification to manage dynamic UI elements.
Through technology add-ins, QTP can automate a wide range of applications and technologies (including web, .NET, Java, SAP, Oracle, and Siebel) and supports cross-browser testing for the major browsers of its era. It offers modular test design, reusable components, batch execution, and detailed reporting with logs and screenshots. QTP also integrates with test management systems (for example, ALM/Quality Center) to support version control, scheduling, and defect tracking. QuickTest Professional was later rebranded as Unified Functional Testing (UFT), which expands on QTP’s capabilities with broader technology coverage and API testing.
QuickTest Professional is developed by Mercury Interactive and is used by 13 users of Software Informer. The most popular versions of this product among our users are: 9.0, 9.1, 9.2, 9.5 and 10.0. The names of program executable files are QTPro.exe, AQTRmtAgent.exe, BCUpgradeTool.exe, Icon4AFF7540.exe and lr_bridge.exe.
